care work is world infrastructure

Lets evolve past it being at the expense of women fulfilling their creative potential

Women’s creativity is the lifeblood of our becoming.

Yet, for those of us accustomed to being caretakers of others, learning to guard our creativity can be unfamiliar or even feel impossible. It’s easy to get stuck passively hoping that others will allow us the time for our creative pursuits. Our untapped creative potential is often idling or even sleeping while our minds and bodies are occupied with the invisible labor of keeping our families glued together. Because of gender norms women do the majority of mental and emotional labor at a great cost to their creative potential. This includes maintaining the family morale and motivating everyone toward the necessary tasks of daily living.

Women’s time has been interrupted and fragmented throughout history, the rhythms of their days circumscribed by the Sisyphean tasks of housework, childcare and Kin work – keeping family and community ties strong. If what it takes to create our long stretches of uninterrupted concentrated time, time you can choose to do with as you will, time that you can control, that’s something women have never had the luxury to expect, at least not without getting slammed for unseemly selfishness“

Intrinsic motivation is motivation to do an activity for its own sake and for personal rewards. Extrinsic motivation is motivation to do an activity to earn a reward or avoid punishment. When our families are relying on us to create the incentives, keep track of progress and issue rewards, we are carrying a BIG mental and emotional responsibility at the cost of having uninterrupted time to tap into our creative source.

In order for you to nurture your creativity, it is essential that your children and other members of your household develop intrinsic motivation. Even when we have a solid chore schedule, we are usually the one holding the whole plan in our heads to ensure that none of the balls get dropped, meanwhile being sapped of our own source of soul sustenance.

FAQ’s

How many emails will I get?

  • You will receive 5 information packed emails for 5 days. A short time later, you will get 1 email with the date and Zoom link for the community meetup. After that you’ll receive newsletters about 2x per season. You can unsubscribe at any time with a simple link at the bottom of each email.

How much time do I need to allow for the course?

  • It will take about 15 minutes to read the emails and 15 minutes of engaging with your family each day.

Are you going to try to upsell me something?

  • I will share links to acquaint you with my offerings, but it won’t be salesy, I promise. I tend to over-deliver on valuable course content.

Is this class only for Women?

  • This class is for all parents or caregivers. Historically, women have carried the lions share of unpaid domestic labor, so while any caregiver can benefit from learning to develop a culture of equally sharing care work, women’s subjugation and liberation will be centered.
